Mid-Century Clear Glass "OLD EMPIRE" liquor or wine PINCH DECANTER Bottle with ponytil scar with the words "OLD EMPIRE" incised into the front of the decanter and filled with gold metallic paint together with a gently swirled glass stopper.  Lovely display decanter of mid-century origins.

A decanter is a specially shaped bottle made to hold liquids (usually alcohol) and it differs from a carafe or other serving container because it has a stopper.  Used since ancient times, decanters can be of a simple design or ornate.  They played a significant role at mealtime in medieval households. Glass artists, liquor manufacturers and other companies have produced special edition decanters throughout the years that currently command interest as antiques and vintage collectors items.

We've washed all of these vintage glass decanters or liquor bottles with warm soapy water inside and out then used a soft cloth and/or air-dried the bottles inside and out.  We would not recommend using these decanters for potable liquid use unless properly sterilized.

This Vintage clear glass "OLD EMPIRE" Decanter Bottle measures 6.5" tall (9" with the stopper), 4" x 3.5" at the base and 1 7/8" in diameter at the top and weighs 1 pound 1.4 ounces.    No chips, cracks, breaks, repairs or damage to note, except on the glass stopper, which does have minor chipping at the bottom of the stopper.  (see photo)  The gold metallic paint within the incision is worn.

There are no impressions or marks on the bottom of this bottle other than the ponytil mark, and we so no evidence of any seams, which would indicate that this decanter bottle may not have been machine made but hand-blown.

These vintage liquor or wine decanter bottles are wonderful to use now  in the kitchen for displaying and storing grains, rice and other dry goods or in the bath or vanity area for bath salts, oils, etc.  Could also be used with colored waters to display in a window for a colorful stained glass affect, and of course, would make a beautiful display in your bar area or dining buffet.
