Outstanding large and heavy re-silvered covered sugar bowl and matching creamer pitcher set from Meriden Silver Plate Co. (c.1880) Both pieces have recently been replated in a very heavy coating of pure silver and polished to a mirror finish. Absolutely gorgeous antique silver set! Lovingly cared for, this antique quadruple silverplate set is in near mint condition! No dents, dings, dimples, scratches or silverplate loss whatsoever.
The large covered sugar bowl has the exquisite engraved and reposse design on both sides, with the front having a cartouche for a family or personal monogram.
The finial on the sugar bowl alone measures almost 1-1/4" wide and features a decorative floral design which wraps over the top of the finial. The matching creamer pitcher also features the floral design on both sides. Again, in near mint condition with no dings, dents, or dimples. Even the applied silverplate spout of the creamer pitcher is ornate with a floral motif and leaves.
Both the covered sugar bowl and the pitcher creamer have the floral and leaf motif extending down their decorative handles. Both pieces show very little use on the insides. No discolorations and just a handful of surface scratches which should easily polish out. One of the photos shows a close-up of the fine floral decoration surrounding both silverplate pieces of this set. The detail is just outstanding!
Touchmark on the base is MERIDEN SILVER PLATE CO. with the Meriden Lion logo, QUADRUPLE SILVERPLATE and the pattern number 1431. The hand-engraved numbers below indicate that these pieces have been re-silvered.
This is a very large and very heavy silverplate set. The covered sugar bowl measures 6" high to the finial, 7" from handle to handle, 3-1/2" diameter at the lip and weighs 1-1/8 POUNDS! The matching creamer pitcher measures 4" high, 6" from handle to spout, 2-3/4" diameter and weighs 10-1/2 ounces!
