Aynsley china is often called the "Queen's choice" because as a bride to be, Princess Elizabeth selected an Aynsley pattern for her royal china.  Appropriately enough, Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer also selected an Aynsley pattern prior to their marriage.

The pattern selected for this cup and saucer is called "Rosedale."  This collection marks the first and only time that this popular pattern will decorate this particular cup and saucer shape.  The delicate pink roses are the perfect complement to the exquisite fine English bone china.  The graceful lines of the cup and saucer have an understated elegance that is subtly enhanced by the hand-painted border of 22K gold.  Aynsley has again created the timeless beauty for which it is renowned in this remarkable cup and saucer set.

The Aynsley name has been closely linked to the manufacture of fine English porcelain since 1775.  The founder of the firm, John Aynsley (1752 - 1829) was a remarkable character with foresight and initiative.  He was four times the mayor of Longton, Staffordshire, the heart of England's porcelain district.

John Aynsley's first wares were beer and cider mugs decorated with sporting, political and humorous scenes from his own colorful engravings.  Some of these early works can be seen today in London's Victoria and Albert Museum.

But times were changing in England during this period.  The custom of drinking tea was coming into fashion.  John Aynsley guided his company into this area and the House of Aynsley began creating the magnificent tea services which established its reputation for excellence for all time.

This fine porcelain bone demitasse china teacup measures 2.5" tall, 2.25" in diameter at the tea cup lip and 3.25" from the tip of the teacup handle to the outside tip of the teacup.  The matching saucer measures 4.75" in diameter.  Both are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs and are marked on the bases with DESIGNED & PRODUCED EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE DANBURY MINT, AYNSLEY, ENGLAND.
