Antique ornately chased silverplate tea set by Martin, Hall & Co. of Sheffield, England (c. 1854 - 1867) This near pristine silver tea set consists of a lidded (hinged) silver teapot with chase work on the lid and scalloped sides with an ebonized handle and knob, a scalloped silver creamer with chasing and a scalloped open silver sugar bowl with chasing.
The antique silver teapot is simply stunning. EXCELLENT condition with no dings, dents, silverplate wear or loss or damage to note. The inside is very clean with darker colors in the deep corners which is difficult to polish. The ebonized knob is attached to the hinged lid with a bolt and wing nut. No cracks or damage to the ebonized knob or handle. Chase work is highlighted on the top of the teapot, along the top edge, and along the front and back. An oval center cartouche has never been monogrammed.
The silver teapot measures 11" x 5.75 x 4.5 oval body, stands 6.5" high and weighs 1 pound, 8.4 ounces. The silver is highly polished to a mirror finish.
The matching open silver sugar bowl is also is EXCELLENT condition with no dings, dents or silverplate wear or loss, or damage to note. Slight rub marks on one side, light surface scratches to the inside bottom. The open silver sugar bowl measures 8" between the elegant silver handles, sugar bowl body measures 5" x 4", it stands 4.5" tall and weighs 15.9 ounces.
The matching silver creamer, as like the other silverplate holloware pieces, is in EXCELLENT condition. No dents, dings or damage to note, no silverplate loss or wear. The creamer measures 6" from tip of the silver handle to the tip of the spout, the body of the creamer measures 3.5" x 2.75", stands 4" high and weighs 9.5 ounces.
Each of these ornately chased silverplate holloware tea pieces are touchmarked on the base with M, H & Co. (Martin, Hall & Co.), EP in an oval for electroplated silver, and in a banner, MARTINOID PAT, and the pattern number 1870 and the number 4.
