Huge 8-1/4" Victorian Footed Antique MERIDEN Quadruple Silverplate Monteith Hexagon Pattern with double split handles attached with two silverplate leaves.
A monteith is a large circular bowl with deeply scalloped rim ornamented with urns, scrolled architectural volutes, cherub heads and leaf-and-flower clusters, all on a stylized leafy ground.
Hand-hammered all around the body of the bowl, with fluted and split rim and banding. The monteith bowl has a small lip on the inside measuring 1/4". The two "C" shaped applied silverplate handles split at the base, one to each side, attaching to the bowl with a detailed leaf.
Extremely good condition with the only exceptions noted as a small amount of silverplate wear on the sides of the handles, a few rub marks on the outside of the bowl, together with a small amount of silverplate wear on the inside.
The touchmark on the base reads: MERDIEN Co., with the Meriden logo of the scales, QUADRUPLE PLATE, the pattern number "1957" and the piece number of "4".
