Antique HOMAN Quadruple Silver Plate Tea Serving Set with original rich oxidized finish includes the teapot, covered sugar bowl, creamer and waste pot bowl.
Unique rotund shaped set featuring bright-cut hand-tooled flower and bamboo leaf design on both sides and applied graceful handles. The factory applied oxidized silverplate finish is a deep blue/black color. Just gorgeous!
The quadruple silverplate teapot has the largest area of engraving, which extends up onto the neck of the teapot. The handle has a flower 'pad' which the knob of the lid rests on when fully opened to protect the handle. The teapot shows a very small amount of oxidized wear (allowing the shiny silver-colored silverplate to peek through) between the body and the neck, the joints of the handle, and the joint of the teapot spout.
The highly polished silverplate lid does show use and wear marks along the edge, and a bit on the top, which is expected of a piece of this age. The inside of the teapot dark. The hinge is secure and works smoothly. A small area on the base of the teapot is rough due to what looks like a 'hard clink' into an immobile object but does not cause the teapot to rock
The quadruple silverplate teapot measures 6.5" high, 8.5" from the tip of the spout to the tip of the handle and weighs 1 pound, 10.4 ounces.
The matching quadruple silverplate covered sugar bowl has two applied handles and also shows wear in the oxidation along the top edge and handles. The lid shows considerable wear to the top and knob. The inside of the sugar bowl, though, is in very good condition with only very minor surface scratches to the interior. It measures 7" handle tip to handle tip, is 3.75" high at the handles and weighs 13.5 ounces.
The portly quadruple silverplate creamer again shows minor oxidation wear along the top edge and a bit of roughness along the creamer spout outside edge. The inside shows some discoloration and wear, but overall, is in very good condition. The creamer measures 5" from handle tip to spout tip, is 3.5" high and weighs 8.4 ounces.
The matching squatty waste pot bowl has two applied handles, some oxidation wear along the top edge and handle tips, and has some discoloration on the inside. The waste bowl measures 6" handle tip to handle tip, stands 3.5" high and weighs 8.5 ounces.
All the holloware pieces of this Homan quadruple silverplate tea set are touchmarked on the base as follows: HOMAN SILVERPLATE CO. with the Homan logo of an anchor, QUADRUPLE PLATE, and the pattern number 2018. This is a fine example of the Aesthetics Movement. You can learn more about the Homan Silverplate Company from our Silver Manufacturers pages. (Don't miss our selection of fine quilted fabric tea cozies, too!)
