Stunningly unique antique MERIDEN Quadruple Silverplate Coffee or Chocolate Pot Set which includes the teapot chocolate pot, covered sugar bowl, creamer and waste pot. This lovely Victorian tea set features a very unique textural "S design all over the bodies of the silverplate pieces, together with a beaded detail along the rims and a swirl gadroon along the bases.
This is a magnificent tea set or chocolate set, in extremely good condition for its age and use. The silverplate teapot chocolate pot features a highly polished handle and spout and the lid features a 'ball' shaped knob and floral 'spur' on the lid to keep the lid from being damaged when placed back on the graceful handle. Some silverplate wear is noted on the spout and the handle, and one shallow and small dimple is noted on one side of the teapot chocolate pot. Moderate discoloration is noted on the inside, although this may never have been intended to be polished to a bright shine. This piece measures 7 3/4" in tall, 6 3/4" from tip of spout to tip of handle and is 2 7/8" in diameter and weighs 1 pound 0.8 ounces.
The matching covered sugar bowl is also in very fine condition with only a dimple noted in the lid, together with moderate silverplate wear on the top of the lid. The silverplate sugar bowl shows very little use marks on the inside. The covered sugar bowl measures 5" from handle to handle, 3.5" high and is 2 7/8" in diameter, weighing 7.7 ounces.
The matching silverplate creamer has no damage, with only minor silverplate wear along its graceful handle and a few wear marks along the spout. It measures 3.5" high, is 2 7/8" in diameter and weighs 6.0 ounces.
And the final piece to this silverplate tea set chocolate set is the matching silverplate waste bowl which measures 3.5" high, 2 7/8" in diameter and weighs 7.0 ounces. Moderate silverplate loss along the handles and very minor wear and use marks on the inside.
The touchmark on the bases reads: MERIDEN SILVER PLATE CO., MERIDEN, CT. with the Meriden logo of a Lion and a pattern number of "01766". We have YET to run across this pattern in any antique store, online mall, or on the Internet. This is definitely a very special quadruple silverplate tea set chocolate set.
