Octagonal matched Sheffield Silver Plate creamer pitcher and covered sugar bowl set by Lawrence B. Smith Co. (L.B.S.CO.) with decorative floral and scroll bands and elegant shaped applied silverplate handles. (c. 1930s)
This is a very heavy silverplate set! The covered sugar bowl is in very good condition with no dents, dings or dimples in the silverplate and no silverplate loss noted. The lid, too, is in excellent condition with what we believe is a jet black Bakelite knob on the top of the creamer lid.
The jet black knob, which we believe is Bakelite, has no seams and no damage. The Bakelite knob is attached to the lid with a screw and nut assembly. The inside of the covered sugar bowl does show considerable silverplate loss on the bottom. The sides and the inside of the lid are undamaged and indicate no silverplate loss.
The matching creamer also shows no silverplate loss or wear on the outside. Beautifully applied elegant handle. One side of the creamer pitcher does have two very small dimples - almost un-noticeable and an 1/8" long scrape, which does not reveal the base metal. The inside of this silverplate creamer pitcher has a very small amount and lightly colored discoloration in the bottom.
Both pieces of silverplate holloware are hallmarked on the base with SHEFFIELD, L.B.S.CO. (Lawrence B. Smith Co.), the company logo of a Cross - Crown -Bell and the pattern number 663. You can read more about the history of Lawrence B. Smith Co. Silver from our Silver Manufacturers pages.
The silver plate sugar bowl measures 5-1/2" handle to handle, 3" in diameter, 4" high and weighs 11 ounces. The matching creamer pitcher measures 4-1/2" handle tip to spout tip, 2-3/4" high and 2-1/2" in diameter and weighs 8 ounces.
