Art Nouveau Silver Quadruple Silverplate Tea Cup from James W. Tufts, Boston. (c. 1880) Beautiful floral design, hand-tooled, is complete around the circumference of this antique art nouveau silver tea cup. The Art Nouveau period was short-lived in America, and relatively few silver examples of this style were made. Plated wares are especially scarce.
Minor discoloration on the bottom of the inside of this silverplate tea cup, some wear along the lip of the silverplate tea cup and perfect silverplate condition along the outside and handle.
Light monogram initials of "HFC" on the front lip of the silverplate cup which could easily be buffed out. Although it's quite sweet that someone loved and used this teacup enough to monogram it. No dents, dings or other damage noted to the tea cup or silverplate. The silver Tufts silverplate tea cup measures 3-1/4" diameter 4-1/2' from bowl to tip of handle and stands 2-1/2" high.
The James W. Tufts Silverplate Tea Cup is hallmarked on the base of the tea cup with "JAMES W. TUFTS" "QUADRUPLE PLATE" "WARRANTED" with the Tufts Logo of the "T" within two diamonds and the pattern number "1372". You can learn more about the history of James W.
