Uncommon vintage silver plate sugar basket with the original oval milk glass bowl and a ROCKFORD Silverplate flatware spoon. The more common sugar baskets available on the market today are ROUND.
I've polished this up so that the silver plate shines and that you can see that there is no damage, pitting or loss of silverplate!
This unmarked footed oval pierced basket with an almost Gothic design along the top, scrolls and florals design along the base edge, and a stationary handle make for a fine display silverplate piece.
The oval milk glass insert is removable, and is in very good condition with only rub marks where it fits into the basket. Note the milk glass insert is ORIGINAL to this piece, as it has a small round depression in the bottom which fits perfectly over the small round stem from the base. Only a very tiny (>1/32") nick from the outside edge. Hardly noticeable. The sugar bowl insert is smooth and clear on the inside, frosted on the outside, giving this bowl the look of antique milk glass.
This set weighs (minus the spoon) 9 ounces, and measures 6" high, 4-1/2" long 4-1/4" wide. The spoon measures 5-1/4" long.
The silver silverplate flatware spoon is good condition, with only light wear along the heal of the bowl. Lovely rose design along the handle and at the tip. It is touch mark stamped "ROCKFORD S.P. CO.", " A" "5" and a "STAR" emblem. The pattern has been identified as "ROSEMARY". You can read more about the history of Rockford Silver Plate Company from our Silver Manufacturers pages.
