Fanciful vintage PERRY ELLIS womens sheer cotton/cotton blend scarf in a colorful red ripe apple fruit pattern on a cream or off-white background with a geometric border of purple and black.  Excellent condition with no damage to note.  Measures 31" x 31".  (c. 1980s)

One ripe red apple motif is located in each quadrant.  Each apple measures approximately 4-1/2" x 4" not including the stem and leaves.  Would make a pretty addition to your collection of vintage ladies scarves or to wear in the Fall when the apples ripen, though it is so light-weight that it could very easily transcend into Spring and Summer.

Perry Ellis is a clothing brand owned by Perry Ellis International and founded by designer Perry Ellis.  Perry Ellis was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, on March 3, 1940.  He earned a B.A. in Business studies at the College of William and Mary and then took an M.A. course in retailing at New York University.

From 1963 to 1967, he worked as a buyer for the Miller Rhodes department store in Richmond, Virginia.  In 1968, he joined John Meyer of Norwich, New York as design director.  In 1974, he became Sportswear designer for the Vera companies.  In 1975 he started designing under his own label Portfolio, and in 1978, Perry Ellis Sportswear Inc was launched.  Perry Ellis died in May 1986.

It was Perry Ellis's philosophy, both as a designer and a man - levity.  He was an innovator. A trailblazer.  A man who wasn't afraid to fly by the seat of his pants.  From the day he launched his first line in 1976, he made fashion meaningful simply by not taking it so seriously.  By believing that clothes should be fun.  Following only what felt right.  Following his gut.  Never setting for what was expected.  Choosing optimism.  Laughing it off.  And in doing so, he redefined an industry - and introduced much-needed. wit.

He also earned an inspiring share of distinctions along the way.  In 1979, Ellis won the Coty Award, his first of eight.  In 1982, he was honored with the CFDA Designer of the Year Award.  And in 1984, he was elected president of the CFDA.  His is a legacy not just of levity, but of distinction.  http://www.perryellis.com/about-us.html
