Vintage ceramic pottery figural LAMB cookie jar with "For Good Little Lambs Only" incised on the front apron by Twin Winton.  (c. 1960's)  This vintage cookie jar has been well-loved and well-used.  Light brown body with pink accents around the figural lamp like the bow tie with flowers and the apron "lace" - all done in a soft pink color.  The eyes, nose and eyebrows are black.  Very cute!

The issues noted are the lamb's left ear has been repaired, on the same side, there is an area measuring 1" long x 1/4" high with multiple chips - most likely from placing the cookie jar lid (the head) back on the cookie jar.  Just two or three other tiny areas with chips (shown) and one on the "lace" of the apron in front.  Very clean on the inside.  Felt pads have been attached to the base, which is unmarked.

Twin Winton Ceramics was started by twin brothers Don and Ross Winton in Pasadena in 1936. While still in high school the twins, along with partner Helen Burke, had a profitable business making and selling clay cartoon animals.  In 1939 the brothers opened their own studio in Tujunga continuing with the small animal figurines.  Twin Winton moved back to Pasadena in 1942, but the next year the brothers enlisted for the military and operations ceased until 1946.

After the war the Twin Winton business was re-established, now at a factory in south Pasadena and along with older brother Bruce.  The popular Twin Winton Hillbilly line was introduced in 1947.  The line featured hand-painted figures of Ozark Mountain boys along with a wood-grain effect under glaze and was such a success that the company relocated to a larger plant on North Fair Oaks in Pasadena.

In 1952 Don and Ross sold their company to older brother Bruce and Don became the only designer for Twin Winton.  He was freelancing for Twin Winton, along with many other local companies.  The pottery moved to El Monte in 1953 and the popular series of wood-tone finish cookie jars was launched.  In 1964 Twin Winton made a final move to the old Brad Keeler plant in San Juan Capistrano where it remained until closing in 1975.

Twin Winton used numerous marking systems on the early pieces including hand-painted marks and ink stamps, but they also left many pieces unmarked or simply inscribed with a stock/catalog number.

This vintage figural lamb cookie jar measures 12" tall (6-1/4" to the cookie jar lip), approximately 7" in diameter and weighs 3 pounds 4.5 ounces.
