Vintage PROSIT pewter lidded German Beer Stein with high relief of three Cherubs or Putti riding fish in the ocean. The two side panels feature barley and hops. The tall ornate pewter lid has been engraved on the outside lip with "Th Küvbris v. Rauchklub Aroma 25.4.98" which roughly translates to, "Th Küvbris v. smoke club flavour". The three Rococo style Putti or Cherubs are quite ornate and beautiful. Marked on the lip with 0.5L.
This vintage German beer stein has a very ornate thumblift and ornate decoration on the beer stein handle. Excellent condition with no chips, cracks or other damage to note. There is some crazing to the glaze, but this can only been seen under magnification.
Please note that the body of the vintage German beer stein is a cream color - identical to the "close-up" shots. Unfortunately the camera flash washed out the color somewhat.
Putti are those plump little naked boys with wings that one often sees in Renaissance, Mannerist, Baroque and Rococo art. Typically, a putto (the singular form) depicts an angel or cherub in a religious scene, but he may also come in the form of Cupid. In either case, a putto's presence symbolizes love, whether Divine or of a more earthly nature.
This vintage German beer stein measures 6" tall to the lip of the stein, nearly 9" tall to the top of the pewter finial, 3-3/4" diameter at the base, 5" from the handle to the front of the stein and weighs 1 pound 7.9 ounces. Marked on the base with "1002" and a signature, which seems to have been added prior to firing.
