Vintage West German Lidded Beer Stein featuring a man and a woman (sitting on his lap) on a trunk with a beer and the German saying, "Wenn Bier u (und) Liebe ging verloren Dann Wäre besser nie geboren" - which roughly translates to, "If beer and love get lost, better to never be born." Excellent condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or other damage to note. Unmarked as to maker.
The pewter zinc lid fits very well to the stein and the thumb-lift is quite ornate. The high relief design features the center with the man and woman, the sides depict a summer house in the mountains near a stream. The handle is crafted to look like a branch and the entire design is surrounded by a decorative rope and bead boarder. The colors are gorgeous with variegation in many of them. Marked along the side of the lip of the German beer stein with 0.25L (liters) which is equal to approximately 8.45 US fluid ounces.
This vintage West Germany lidded beer stein is incised on the base with WESTERN GERMANY and a letter "C" within a circle. It measures 4.5" tall to the lip of the stein, 6" to the top of the pewter lid finial, 4-3/4" from the tip of the handle to the front, is approximately 4" in diameter and weighs 15.6 ounces.
