Vintage STERLING SILVER Cufflinks & Tie Bar set by J.J. White (JJ White) of Providence, Rhode Island (c. 1896 - 1978).
Nice brushed and polished sterling silver finish on the fronts, with diamond cuts (to simulate the look of diamond chips). The sterling silver tie bar is marked STERLING on the back of the clip. The matching sterling silver cufflinks are marked with a "W" within a triangle (indicating J.J. White) and STERLING.
Dating back to the seventeenth century, cufflinks came about when men wanted something more elegant for their shirts than ribbons or ties to hold together their cuffs. Men began using small chains that were fastened to the end of a gold or silver button and fed through the holes of the cuff to keep them together. Hence, the first cufflink was born!
The sterling silver tie bar measures 1-3/4" and each sterling silver cufflink measures 3/4" square. Nice vintage sterling silver men's jewelry set. Not in perfect store condition, as all pieces show some evidence of use, but certainly a nice set.
