Excellent condition antique quadruple silverplate CHOCOLATE POT by A. Cohen & Sons , recently re-silvered and restored to its original quadruple silver plate finish and condition. This small chocolate pot is elegant in its simplicity. Adorned with a hand-tooled flower design on the front only, with a floral motif on the short spout and an graceful applied handle.
A chocolate pot is a container which was designed to serve hot chocolate. Many people find it difficult to distinguish a chocolate pot from a coffee pot. The two features to look at are the spout on the exterior of the pot and the inside of the spout. Coffee pot spouts are typically long and sometimes arched. A chocolate pot has a fairly short spout. The inside of a coffee pot just before the spout typically has a filter (a small partition with holes) that keeps grounds from getting into the cup. A chocolate pot would not have the filter.
Exceptionally clean on the inside, the silver plate on the outside is thick and unblemished. Very high polish shine - a mirror finish. Decorative and ornate finial top with a floral spur rest. This antique quadruple silverplate chocolate pot has a gently flared shape.
This exceptional antique quadruple silverplate chocolate pot measures 8.5" high, 4.5" in diameter, 6.25" from the tip of the teapot handle to the tip of the teapot spout and weighs 1 pound 4.3 ounces. Touchmarked on the bottom with AcSoNs, NY, QUADRUPLE and the pattern number 1101. You can read more about the history of A. Cohen and Sons from our Silver Manufacturers pages.
