Vintage AYNSLEY bone china egg cup in the popular PEMBROKE pattern, features colorful pink flowers with green and blue leaves together with metallic gold trim in a Greek key design along the top edge and gold banding along the top rim and base. An egg cup, sometimes called egg server, is a container used for serving boiled eggs within their shell.
Throughout the 18th and into the 19th century, pottery and porcelain egg cups only featured as part of a dinner service and they would have been of a matching style, color and pattern. During the 19th century, egg cups were produced in their own right as individual pieces of chinaware.
The egg cup became very popular in the 1930's. Egg cups were used to serve an egg chopped, mixed with salt and pepper and eaten with a spoon or fork.
