Rare Victorian silver plate spooner or spoon holder by Middletown Plate in fully restored and re-silvered triple silver! Features an angelic figural cherub playing a flute perched atop a curved vine handle with leaf attachments over a ornately shaped spooner or spoon holder.
This outstanding piece of Victorian figural silver, this restored and re-silvered Victorian era spooner or spoon holder is in excellent condition, with no dings, dents, stretches or silverplate wear or loss. High polish silver finish on the exterior, a matte finish to the interior. Many dealers mislabel these spooners or spoon holders as spoon caddies.
The figural cherub is very detailed, from the cherub's fingertips, to his curly hair and his flute. On the backside, the 2-stem vine sports a detailed leaf on the back of the cherub, and another at the end of the stem. The stems then split apart towards the body of the silver spooner, and each is attached to the side of the spooner with yet another figural leaf.
The rim of this Victorian spooner or spoon holder has been cut into almost a flame design. Very sharp! A photograph of another 1800's Victorian spooner, this one a double spooner holding spoons, is shown at the left.
Touchmarked on the bottom with MIDDLETOWN PLATE CO., the Middletown scales logo, TRIPLE PLATE and the pattern number 99. You can read more about the history of Middletown Plate from our Silver Manufacturers pages.
