Very collectible vintage REED & BARTON Silver Plate Pickle / Olive Fork in the Clovelly pattern c. 1920 from the Detroit Athletic Club, Detroit, Michigan.
Usually, pickle forks have three tines, olive forks have two, however, this varies with different silver manufacturing companies and patterns. In a few old silver flatware brochures, some were even listed as Butter Picks or Butter Forks, and they do serve that purpose well. Other than pickles and olives, they serve cocktail oysters, shrimp, pickled herring and marinated fruits and vegetables. They may also double as lobster picks or cocktail forks!
This particular silver Reed & Barton pickle or olive fork originated from the Detroit Athletic Club in Detroit Michigan, as evidenced by the DAC logo on the front, and DETROIT ATHLETIC CLUB incised on the back of the fork handle.
The Detroit Athletic Club - one of the finest private clubs in the country, an elite organization deeply committed to upholding the traditions and elegance of its glorious past. Founded in 1887, the DAC evolved from a brotherhood of athletes and prominent industrialists.
