Interesting quadruple silver plate bonbon candy dish or sweetmeat basket by E.G. Webster & Son, which features a delicate beaded rim, twisted handle design with an ornate handle attachment and a deeply impressed wave design along the body.
Bonbon dishes were a form which developed in the 1890's in American silverplate. Even in less opulent households, where the sweetmeat course might be served in the dining room, the silver sweetmeat basket was much in demand, for the company moved to the drawing-room after dinner and was served with wine and baskets of nuts and raisins and other confectionary delights.
This antique quadruple silverplate bonbon candy dish or sweetmeat basket is in good condition, with no dents, dimples or structural damage. There is, however, silverplate wear noted to the exterior - specially on one side. Additional silverplate wear is noted along the inside rim and within the bottom.
This Webster silverplate bonbon candy dish sweetmeat basket measures 5" in diameter, stands 1.75" tall to the rim, 4.25" tall at the handle and weighs 5.5 ounces. Touchmarked on the bottom with E.G. Webster & Son's logo of a "W" within a spider web and the pattern number "66". You can read more about the history of E.G. Webster & Son from our Silver Manufacturers pages.
