An elegant mid-century vintage silver plate footed venison dish with well-defined decorative gadroon rim with deeply molded gravy tree and well. Many people know this as a silver meat platter with well, or a meat dish, or a meat carving tray and even a meat serving platter and, as the design resembles, a "tree of life". Today, it would make a stunning turkey serving platter for the holidays!
This mid-century footed silverplate meat platter with well measures 16" x 12" and stands 1.5" tall, weighs approximately 2 pounds 4 ounces and is in extremely good condition. No silverplate wear or loss noted, and only a few very light surface marks on the front. Bright silver finish! Decorative gadroon edge and four ornate feet. You will NOT be disappointed!
Touchmarked on the back of the tray or platter with the following touchmark: a crown over "X", the initials "H" and "S" within an ornate shield, and a Britannia lion and Silver on Copper within an inverted triangle. Although we have not been able to identify the silver manufacturer of this fine silverplate meat platter, we do believe that it is American-made, and mid-century in age.
