Silver and silverplate oval entree dishes became popular from the 1770's onwards. Until the 1820's, most were oval or rectangular in shape. Earlier examples of silver vegetable or entree dishes were often shallower than those made during the Regency period and later.
This elegant silver plate oval vegetable dish measures 12" long, 9.125" wide, 3.5" high and weighs 3 pound, 8.5 ounces. Excellent condition with no dings, dents or silverplate loss. Very light surface rub marks on the top from storage. This Towle silver vegetable entree dish has rarely, if ever, been used, and retains all of its original thickly applied silverplate. The high silver polish finish lends itself perfectly to be monogrammed with your initials or family name on the lid.
The original divided glass insert is in perfect condition, with no chips, cracks or other blemishes.
