Vintage silverplate CLAREMONT Oyster, Cocktail, Pickle fork by International Silver Co. (c. 1928) and monogrammed MM - perhaps even Marilyn Monroe???
Oyster forks are used in addition to the 5-piece place setting and are used for the eating of oysters. Cocktail forks are individual forks used with the five-piece place setting. Their primary purpose is for eating appetizers and shrimp dishes. Generally, this piece has three short tines. Pickle Forks have three tines also, and can be used to serve pickled herring, smoked fish, cocktail oysters or clams, onions, shrimp, crab apples and any pickled or marinated fruits and vegetables. They can also double as lobster picks, and the short-handled ones as cocktail forks. Fondue enthusiasts collect them to use as individual fondue forks for dessert fondues.
This vintage silver Oyster / Cocktail / Pickle Fork is in very good condition with only a small amount of silver wear to the heel and to the back of the fork handle. Some use and polishing marks are noted, as expected in a piece of this age. Touchmarked on the back of the handle with I.S.Co. B.P and monogrammed on the front of the handle with MM. This silverplate fork measures 6" in length and weighs .9 ounces and the tines are very sharp.
