Beautifully engraved antique and old continental silver pocket watch for a pocket fob with a non-monogrammed cartouche and silver hallmarks that date this pocket watch to Switzerland between 1882 and 1934.
This is a lovely antique silver pocket watch case, perhaps even a hunting case watch, as there is a cuvette - the inner cover of the back of the watch case which is normally present in hunting watch cases. The deep engraving on the front of the watch case features a plethora of leaves with a center cartouche that has never been monogrammed. The outside rim of this cover seems to be copper. There is no damage to the silver.
The backside of this cover is hallmarked with a tiny grouse, the hallmark of Swiss silver, the 0,800 mark that indicates the finesse of silver and another hallmark of a crescent moon and a crown with a cross above it (Imperial German silver). The edict creating the crown & moon was issued in Germany in 1884, but the mark itself was not mandated until 1888. There is no Edelweiss mark, therefore, this is guaranteed to be made prior to 1917. 36640 and a number 2 are also stamped on the back.
The center cover is engraved with Cylindre 8 Roubis with No. 36640 just below that. The outside edge is engraved with three different rows of decorative engraving.
There is no movement, crystal or crown and all three items will need to be replaced by a competent watchmaker, if you so desire. This is JUST the pocket watch case, which is collectible in and of itself.
This antique Swiss German pocket watch case of continental silver measures 35mm in diameter and weighs 12.7 grams.
