Art Deco (1930's) figural salt & pepper shaker set in silver-colored chrome featuring a stylized bird in in the art deco style on a stand, together with individual salt & pepper shakers in the shape of eggs!
This is a most unusual chrome-plated vintage salt & pepper shaker set, and it certainly embodies the art deco period with its clean lines and design.
The long-beaked bird is perhaps waiting for a name card to be place between its bill. Those egg-shaped salt & pepper shakers certainly are cute! However, one of them, the salt shaker, does have corrosion to the tip of the egg where the holes are, and along the bottom of the base where the screw-off cap is located. We were unable to unscrew the cap for fear of damaging the egg. The other egg, the pepper shaker, is in fine condition with no damage to note other than a surface scratch along the bottom. The cap on this one removes easily.
The stylized long-billed bird in the center is attached to the stand, and, for an old bird, is in good condition!
The salt & pepper shaker stand, though, shows a moderate amount of wear, as shown. The stand which the bird is attached is scratched - almost like the stand was unscrewed at one time. Overall, though, this is a dandy set for those of you who collect Art Deco items, or to add to a vintage salt & pepper shaker collection, or even just as a conversational centerpiece on your breakfast table.
Weighing in at 9.1 ounces, this vintage chrome-plated Art Deco figural bird and eggs salt & pepper shaker set measures (the base) 4.5" x 2.5", the bird measures 4.25" tall, 1.5" wide, and each egg shaped shaker measures 1.75" x 1". Marked on the base with C206 MADE IN JAPAN. This figural salt & pepper shaker is stunning as is with its high polished chrome finish.
