Collectible Wedgwood Jasperware Lavender (sometimes called Lilac) Lidded Egg Trinket Box with Jasperware relief a cupid standing on a rose bough, holding a garland of flowers. The egg shaped lid is surrounded by a rose border and sprinkling of floral sprays both on the lid and the body of the Wedgwood egg.
The most famous of all Josiah Wedgwood's inventions was Jasperware. The unglazed vitreous body provides the perfect background for classic scenes in bas-relief, and these Wedgwood Jasperware trinket boxes are no exception.
My research indicates that Wedgwood produced Lilac / Lavender items between 1777- 1790. Wedgwood issued limited quantities again in 1959, with full production between 1960-1964. Lilac / Lavender was re-introduced between 1980-1984, with very limited quantities available in 1989, 1990 and 1999. The Lavender / Lilac hues range from pinkish lilac, to a peachy lilac to a grey-tone lilac.
Traditional Wedgwood craftsmanship in the fine details of the design. These Wedgwood Jasperware Lidded Boxes are very collectible and would make a fine gift for you or a loved one, or to add to your existing Wedgwood Jasperware collection.
Excellent condition with no damage to the applied Jasperware. No chips, cracks or marks noted. This lavender or lilac Wedgwood Jasperware lidded trinket egg box measures 4.25" long by 2.5" wide by 2.75" tall. Marked on the bottom with WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND.
