Brilliant cobalt blue French thimble by Limoges, France, features the fine porcelain china of Limoges, in a deep cobalt blue color with hand-painted gold encrusted flowers on the crown of the thimble, and sprinkled around the body of this porcelain sewing thimble.
Limoges became famous for its undecorated white porcelain artifacts created by the most talented artisans in Limoges and often shown at the trade shows in Paris. White porcelain was very much a novelty and was left undecorated with enamels to that people could see the high quality of this new material called porcelain, unblemished and without deformities. In addition, the French porcelain became famous for certain types of enamel colors such as cobalt blue.
This collectible French Limoges cobalt blue thimble is in excellent condition and measures 7/8" tall and 3/4" wide at the base of the thimble. LIMOGES FRANCE has been applied in gold text to the inside of the thimble.
