Collectible State Sewing Thimble HAWAII State Flower
Vintage collectible state sewing thimble from HAWAII featuring the state flower, the RED hibiscus on a white porcelain china thimble!
The hibiscus, all colors and varieties, was the official Territorial Flower, adopted in the early 1920s. At statehood in 1959, the first state legislature adopted many of Hawaii's symbols as part of the Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS, state laws). It wasn't until 1988, however, that the yellow hibiscus which is native to the islands was selected to represent Hawaii. For this reason, you will see many older photos and postcards with the red hibiscus, or any other color for that matter, as the state flower. These weren't incorrect at the time. http://www.50states.com/flower/hawaii.htm
This fine porcelain china state sewing thimble from Hawaii is in excellent - if slightly faded (?) - condition, with a gold band near the base. The state thimble measures 1.125" tall and 7/8" wide at the base. This thimble would be a very nice addition to your state thimble collection, a thimble collection of state flowers, or your vintage Hawaiian collection.
