Antique MERIDEN Quadruple Silverplate Tea Set with gadroon trim and design. Five piece antique silver plate tea set! Monogrammed E.L.F. - yes! ELF! (c. 1892)
This darling antique quadruple silver plate tea set features a small silver tea pot with large gadroon design and smaller gadroon trim on a pedestal base. The silver tea pot is in very good condition - very clean inside - no dents or dings, but does have a moderate amount of silverplate wear on the gadroon design. The top, lid, handle and spout are in very good condition with no silverplate wear or loss. Monogrammed on one side (facing right) with engraved script letters "E. L. F." This silver teapot measures 7.35" from the tip of the spout to the tip of the handle, stands 4" tall, 3" wide and weighs 10.3 ounces.
The matching antique quadruple silver plate lidded sugar bowl, two handled, has no dents and only 1 tiny ding on the gadroon side, no silverplate loss and only a small amount of silverplate wear along the gadroon side and a bit on the lid. The inside is very clean. This antique silverplate sugar bowl measures 6.5" between the handles, stands 3.5" tall, is 3" wide and weighs 9.4 ounces.
The matching antique quadruple silver plate creamer pitcher also has no dings nor dents, and only a small amount of silverplate wear along the gadroon sides. Again, very clean on the inside with just a hint of gilding. The silverplate creamer pitcher measures 4.75" in length, 2.5" wide, 2.5" high and weighs 4.1 ounces. Some silverplate wear noted along the outside gadrooning and a touch on the handle.
The matching antique quadruple silver plate waste bowl is also in very good condition with only a moderate amount of silverplate wear along the outside gadroon design. Very clean on the inside with just a touch of gilding. The waste bowl measures 4.5" long, 3" wide, 2.5" high and weighs 5.6 ounces.
Each of this antique quadruple silver plate tea set pieces is touchmarked on the base with MERIDEN COMPANY, QUADRUPLE PLATE, the pattern number 893 and an engraved date of 1892 and the engraved initials E.L.F. except for the teapot which is engraved on the edge.
