Unusual ANTIQUE silverplate REED & BARTON tea serving set with shallow lobes and a fanciful Art Nouveau design.  Monogrammed in a lovely script "B".

A silver tea set from Reed & Barton enjoys something of a sterling reputation.  The American company started crafting silver goods in 1824.  In 1906, it introduced the Francis I tea service, with each piece fashioned by hand from single sheets of silver.  The manufacturing process changed to a molding technique by the 1950's.  Even with molded sets, craftsmen still devote hours of hand finishing to create the finished pattern and luster.

Reed & Barton is one of America's oldest, privately-held silversmiths.  Since 1824, our richly designed and expertly made flatware, holloware, gifts and fine collectibles have graced the homes of those who appreciate and admire works of beauty.

The silver plate teapot is in extremely good condition with no silverplate wear or loss noted.  Two very tiny bumps are noted just below the monogram, but they're barely noticeable.  The Art Nouveau floral design extends onto the teapot spout, along the rim, the pedestal base and handle and lid.  The silverplate teapot measures 9.25" tall, 9.75" from the teapot handle to spout, is approximately 5" wide and weighs 1 pound, 8.1 ounces.  The inside of the pot is slightly discolored from use, but no pitting is noted.

The matching silver plate covered sugar bowl also features the Art Nouveau design on the pedestal foot, the rim, the handles and the lid.  Again, the shallow lobed shape.  No silverplate loss or wear noted.  No dents or other damage to note.  The inside is very clean.  The silverplate covered sugar bowl measures 6.5" between the handles, 5" tall, 4" wide and weighs 11.4 ounces.

The matching silver plate creamer pitcher is also shallow lobed, with the Art Nouveau floral design extending tot he handle, the rim and the pedestal.  A tiny amount of silverplate wear is noted along the edge of the handle and two tiny bumps located just below the monogram.  The silverplate creamer pitcher measures 5" from handle to front edge, 4.75" tall, 3.5" wide and weighs 8.6 ounces.

Although Reed & Barton has contemporary holloware in what is called "Holiday #110", this antique silver tea set is obviously NOT it!  This is, in fact, one of their earlier silver holloware tea sets.  We have not been able to identify the pattern name as there seem to be no records of this early silver pattern.

The silverplate teapot, covered sugar bowl and creamer pitcher are touchmarked on the base with MANUFACTURED & PLATED BY REED & BARTON, pattern #110, PATENT APPLIED FOR.  The silverplate creamer pitcher is also marked GILT.  You can read more about the history of Reed & Barton Silver from our Silver Manufacturers pages.
