Stunning near mint condition figural Egyptian Revival footed master sugar bowl with detailed pheasant bird finial in quadruple silverplate by Wilcox Silver.
This outstanding footed master sugar bowl features four detailed Egyptian feet, six figural Egyptian heads along the top decorative border, two Egyptian heads - one on each handle, finished in both stippled and high polished silver, with a detailed figural pheasant bird finial.
One tiny dent in the base of the footed sugar bowl, and a bit of discoloration around the inside bottom edge. The inside edge has a very small spot of silverplate wear, but the outside is in near mint condition, with only age related use and polishing marks noted. Never replated, this antique quadruple silverplate is in its original condition.
The bell-shaped lid is also in near mint condition, with no dings, dents or silverplate wear or loss. The figural pheasant finial is very detailed and has no damage.
The Egyptian Revival period flourished during the period 1820-1850, and was used primarily for memorials, cemeteries, and prisons. Egyptian Revival made a comeback during the 1920's with the Art Deco style and the fascination with the discovery of King Tutankhamen's tomb in 1922.
Measuring a huge 9.5" between the handles, this antique quadruple silverplate master sugar bowl is 6.25" in diameter, stands 7.75" high to the top of the figural finial, 4.75" to the top of the footed bowl and weighs 2 pounds, 2.5 ounces.
