Extra coin silver plate iced tea beverage spoon by Niagara Silver Co. in the BRIGHTON pattern, which was one of Niagara's first patterns (c. 1899).
Extra Coin Silver Plate was a mark used by the Niagara Silver Co., formed in 1899 as manufacturers of silver and silverplated wares". In 1900, Niagara purchased the flatware department of the Pairpoint Mfg. Company.
This coin silver iced tea spoon (ice teaspoon) was obviously well loved and used, as silver wear is noted to the very edges of the tip and polishing marks within the bowls and the handles. The spoon show wear on the heel and the back tip of of the handle.
Today, iced tea spoons can be used as bar spoon, pitcher spoon or lemonade spoon. It's also suited to serving relishes from a pickel caster.
This silver spoon measures 8" in length, weighs 1.1 ounces and is touchmarked on the back of the rounded oval bowl of the spoon handle with COIN SILVER EXTRA PLATE.
