During the 19th century, a growing emphasis on table manners emerged, most evident in the widespread publication of etiquette books and a sudden profusion of tablewares. One of the new utensils in genteel households was the crumber, which was used to remove crumbs and other small bits of food from the tablecloth between courses.
The larger silvercrumber pan has only a few light crimps to the outside edge and just a touch of pitting along the the backside. No dents or silverplate loss noted. Satin (or butler's) finish to the original quadruple silverplate. This silverplate crumber pan measures 8.25" x 6", is1.25" high and weighs 8.2 ounces.
The smaller silver crumber pan has only a few tiny dents along the inside edge of the pan, and a minor amount of silverplate wear along the more ornate edge. This smaller crumber pan measures 7.5" x 3.75", is1" high and weighs 4.5 ounces.
